Doctoral candidate Leah Fine goes to Peru to record a dying culture. What began as a year of research living with and becoming a part of a small but vibrant community outside the world as modernity knows it, becomes a year of incredible adventure, passion, and politics. Nothing is really as it seems. What was hidden from view is exposed, and time becomes a precious commodity as the people determine their own fate. Leah is the catalyst; Dr. Morales and Tan become the unsuspecting agents of change in their own secluded world. DREAM DANCER is an exciting anthropological adventure populated by ancient and modern belief and practice. The collision of two worlds creates a moment of synchronicity, that split second when life-altering decisions are made.

This story was beautiful and it was a lovely read. The author does a magnificent job of describing the different settings and places. I feel as if I have been to the sacred places and villages in Peru! Also, from a social context, it is a great story to see how US citizens may be viewed by others, especially in traditional villages, no matter the country or continent. The author also does a wonderful job of reminding us of the struggles of people over the centuries because of religious differences, land disputes, etc. We should all have great respect for others' beliefs and not pass judgement on what they may believe. There is also a romantic thread between two characters, which is makes the book a little more PG-13. But, any mature adult will understand the messages and trials and tribulations of relationships. Finally, the character Leah, from the very beginning, exemplifies how different the world would be if we first "seek to understand, then be understood" (Covey). Her character is so utterly respectful of the culture she studies and because of that, mutual respect and caring bloom organically. Thank you for a great story. One hint for future readers, while I was reading, I kept wishing there was a glossary of terms. There is. It's in the back. I saw it as I read the last passage and had to laugh!Product details

A story filled with drama and romance. For anyone who wants to learn a little about another culture while enjoying a traditional love story.
This is a wonderful story about how a little-known culture in Peru interacts with the outside world & how one woman from Minnesota (of all places) becomes intertwined with not only these Peruvian natives & their customs but with one of their most sexually active males. It is a strange, yet unforgettable love story that I truly enjoyed. And if you get lost in some of the tribal language (which really isn't a problem), there is a surprise ending a glossary of terms that follows the final chapter.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was hooked as soon as I started reading and couldn't put it down. There are interesting characters with great character development. I liked that this book has strong female characters. It has adventure, romance, and a strong moral message about the exploitation of people and resources. All in all, a very enjoyable read!
Thoughtful, well-written and solidly researched. The main character, Leah, is an anthropologist studying a culture in a traditional village in Peru.
Leah, and the other characters are complex and developed. The respect with which Leah (and by extension, the author of course) treats
the people and the culture is noteworthy. In Dream Dancer, Schwaidelson weaves together romance, anthropology, and international politics to create a compelling story.
Dream Dancer was full of surprises. The main character Leah is a strong woman who knows her boundaries but no limits. Throughout the book there was new information continually adding to the complexity. The romance sections were exotic and erotic. Many enjoyable turns as well as suspenseful sections. I found that some evenings I was not able to fall asleep because the book was too good to stop.
A thoughtful and smoldering character portrait set in the jungles of Peru. Fantastic stuff, great pacing and character development. Needs more zombies.
Great read! From page 1 it is hard to put this book down. Action, adventure, well-drawn characters (mostly likable, except for the bad guys), vividly drawn locations, and a fascinating look at a culture that has most likely completely disappeared. This book is intelligently written, underpinned by solid research, yet reads like the great novel it is.
